Every Quarantine Calls for a Book List

Okay, friends – here’s a throwback for you!

If you had a snapshot of my life in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, chances are you’d see me at the library. Tucked away in the corner with a pile of books by my side and at least two in hand. My entire life, I’ve been an avid reader… I spent hours lost in the pages of books like The Magic Tree House, Tuck Everlasting, Chronicles of Narnia, and of course an old favorite: Matilda.

Fast forward to today:

My love of reading is still strong, and it’s even expanded to writing my own novel.

Right here, right now, I’m documenting the list of the books that are keeping me entertained during the Covid-19 Pandemic 2020. (That’s the current time, but no doubt about it – this post will serve as a bit of a time capsule!)

So, let’s get to it! Here’s my list.

Becoming by Michelle Obama

The former First Lady of the United States shares her life story in this gripping read – from an ordinary childhood, journey to find her voice, role as a mother, her public health campaign, all the way to her time at the White House. This memoir is an honest and beautiful description of her life story.

I’ve always been so inspired by Michelle Obama. Her spirit lights the world and she’s (still!) making big waves. Her book will forever be at the top of my list of recommendations.

All Along You Were Blooming by Morgan Harper Nichols

This woman is a wordsmith ninja. No question about it. After stumbling across Morgan Harper Nichols in my Pinterest feed, I became a fast fan! She has a knack to capture the thoughts of millions of people and share those thoughts with the world – it’s a rare gift, and I can’t get enough of it.

The book is visually stunning and the depth of her words ignites my soul. If I’m looking for a pick-me-up, this is my go-to read! She validates my feelings and somehow explains the human heart and all that it goes through.

Trust me when I say, this needs to be added to your reading list!

The Office: The Untold Story by Andy Greene

If you know me, you also know my love for The Office. I finally watched the entire show from start to finish and honestly cried my eyes out. I fell head over heels for this series and am a total sucker for great bloopers and diving deeper into a series. When I found out there was a book on the greatest sitcom, I couldn’t get my hands on it quickly enough.

This book will make you laugh out loud. Andy Greene takes you behind-the-scenes in a brilliant and hilarious way that makes you feel present in the moment.

I promise you will love this!

PS: If you haven’t watched The Office yet… how did you even get this far?! Start with binging the series (you’ve got the time!) and then hop on over to this book. You’ll be glad you did.

More than Enough by Elaine Welteroth

Whatever your journey is, this book is the nourishment we all need for our souls. I was gifted with the audiobook and it is hands-down one of the best gifts I’ve ever received! Regardless of your industry, stage of life, walk of life – you name it! – this book is incredibly relatable and ALL women will likely resonate with her words.

Elaine Welteroth speaks into her own experiences and offers advice based on the lessons she’s learned. Her testimony beautifully illustrates the journey we’re all and she inspires through her powerful words.

But beware: if you pick this book up, you won’t want to put it back down. *wink*

Hollow Haven by Lauren Taylor

As you know, I’m writing this one rather than reading it but I’ll be reading it long after it’s written. I hope the same goes for you.

The suspenseful mystery will have you on the edge of your seat as you uncover the eerie secrets of the mysterious town, Hollow Haven.

I’m releasing chapters as they’re written, so keep a close eye on the blog to read the newest chapter.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

One of the most honest and relatable books I have ever read. Elizabeth Gilbert speaks into the creative process in a playful, sarcastic, and truthful tone that had me laughing out loud. She avoids the “fluff” and gets straight to the point in this quick read.

I found the book to be so inspiring – especially given the crazy times we’re living in right now. (Way to go, coronavirus. *sigh*).

If you’re looking for some quick inspiration, this is the book for you!

One of Us is Next by Karen M. McManus

Raise your hand if you’re a sucker for a great suspense/mystery novel! (Both of my hands are up, just so you know! Haha)

This highly anticipated sequel to “One of Us is Lying” offers a whole new set of rules. Think Pretty Little Liars meets The Breakfast Club… that’s the vibes I’m getting from this book. The page-turner was impossible to put down and just as I binge Netflix, I binged every chapter of this book.

I can’t wait to see what happens next and if you give it a go, I’m sure you’ll be as glued to the plot as I am!

Okay, friends. I need to know! What are you reading? What should I add to the book pile beside me? Drop a comment in the boxes below. I can’t wait to dive in!
